Welcome to Sutton & Cheam Water Polo!
Water Polo is a physically demanding Olympic Sport combining ball and swimming
skills, and teamwork. It offers the opportunity for swimmers of all ages
to continue within a sport which offers competition and success as well
as a strong social side for senior players. Based in the London Borough
of Sutton in South West London, Sutton and Cheam is recognised as one of
the leading clubs in British water polo. Traditionally, the club senior
teams compete in Green and Gold, the original club colours.

A founder member of National Water Polo League (now the British Water
Polo League) in 1962, the club has remained in the BWPL ever since, winning
on several occasions and currently competing in Division 2. Locally, the
club has plenty of opportunities for competition all year round; competing
in the London, Surrey and Winter Water Polo Leagues and knockout competitions.
Over the years, Sutton & Cheam has been one of the most successful
water polo clubs in London and Surrey.
Sutton and Cheam is also well represented in Surrey County and District
(London Region) sides at all age groups from Under 14, to Masters. Some
players also go on to England Schools, the National Academy, Regional
Training Centres and Great Britain representation at junior and full international
levels.
The men's 1st team currently competes in the London Water Polo
League Premier Division, the London Winter League, Surrey Water Polo League
and the British Water Polo League Division 2.
The Men's 2nd team has just been promoted to the London Water
Polo League Division 2, and also plays in the London Winter and Surrey
Water Polo Leagues, and other local knockout competitions. The team is
made up of experienced players and our stronger juniors, blending experience
with youthful enthusiasm. This gives our juniors the chance to play with
more experienced players in games of higher quality than they might normally
meet in junior competitions.
Many Sutton & Cheam players have achieved representative honours
over the years. Most recently, the club's first team goalkeeper, Matt
Holland, represented GB at the London 2012 Olympics and is currently
playing professionally in Aix-en-Provence in France. Matt learned to swim
and play water polo at Sutton & Cheam and still plays for the senior
team when he is back in the country.
Similarly, Sutton & Cheam's Brooke Tafazolli is currently in the
GB Women's Under 20 squad, and in the running for a Rio 2016 place.
Experienced players or potential players of any age are always welcome.
